Hand-shaped from Oaxacan barro, this sculptural vase embodies the essence of Mexican pottery — grounded, organic, and timeless. Its bold silhouette draws inspiration from ancient vessels used in rural Oaxaca for storing grains and water, reimagined with modern, architectural lines that celebrate balance and form.

Each curve and contour is shaped by hand, revealing the rhythm of the artisan’s touch. The surface bears soft tonal shifts of clay and ash — a result of the natural firing process in open-air kilns, where smoke, flame, and earth converge to give every piece its unique character. The unglazed matte texture highlights the raw beauty of the material, while the subtle flare at the rim adds refinement and proportion.

This piece may have been crafted by artisans from the San Bartolo Coyotepec region, known for their mastery of barro techniques passed down for generations. Though traditionally known for black clay, some artisans experiment with natural, unburnished finishes — allowing the true color of the earth to speak.
